Service of Re-dedication for the War Memorials

The afternoon of Sunday 19th April 2015 saw a service of re-dedication in Loughborough to mark the re-positioning of the All Saints and Holy Trinity War Memorials. In a moving ceremony the works were presented as a fitting tribute to the Fallen. The event was attended by many notable local dignitaries from diverse communities across the borough as well as relatives of those local men who fell in WW1.

In this picture, Hilda Onions, herself a survivor of the 1916 Zeppelin Raid, stands before the lower placed memorial to the Fallen of two world wars, finally re-sited from the decommissioned Holy Trinity Church. Her own brother, John (Billie) Godber’s name is on that memorial, killed by a German bomb whilst trying to evacuate a wounded soldier.

Sadly Hilda has also now passed away but we all fondly remember her for her wonderful spirit.
